“ANKA” is a series of work by Jonathan Puc a 3D motion artist and developer who lives and works in Naarm/Melbourne.

Surreal and striking, Jonathan composes images that are both familiar and alien, raising questions in the viewer about what they are perceiving and what that could mean for them, their identity and their future.

“These moments of existential uncertainty, where doubts and fears interweave, blur into a chaotic mosaic.”

“I find myself clawing and grappling in an attempt to traverse this territory of self. Through this exploration, as I begin to embrace these elements, a realization emerges.”

“What surrounds me is not merely a fray to overcome but an arrangement of self, longing to be re-composed into harmonious expression.”

Referencing traditional surrealist art as well as futuristic, sci-fi visions, the abstract ornaments Jonathan creates exist in an undefined space, creating a sense of mysticism in the eyes of the viewer. Organisms and flora we sense and know are distorted and morphed with creatures and alien elements that are unfamiliar to us. This constant evolution, this interaction of the known and unknown, is reflective of the constant evolution of our own sense of self as the world, time and other influences change and mold us.

Accompanying the artwork in the A.SINGLE.PIECE gallery is a video sculpture, Jin 2024, along with two physical sculptures and an installation featuring a floral alien landscape.
