In our rapidly changing modern society, we are constantly exposed to new stimuli and information. Amid this relentless pace, we often feel a suffocating sense of isolation and anxiety.
The Breathin series delves into the inner lives of modern individuals, visually expressing the serene breath that emerges within. The softly glowing plants in the works symbolize emotions blossoming deep within our uneasy hearts, resembling dreamlike landscapes.
The series draws inspiration from two poems by Mary Oliver, exploring the idea of the "window of the soul" that resides in all of us. It suggests that even in a stifling reality, we can find peace through the act of "deep breathing."
"Listen, are you breathing just a little, and calling it a life? While the soul, after all, is only a window, and the opening of the window no more difficult than the wakening from a little sleep."
– Mary Oliver, New and Selected Poems, Volume One
"Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine. Meanwhile, the world goes on. Meanwhile, the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers. Meanwhile, the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again. Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting—over and over announcing your place in the family of things."
– Mary Oliver, Wild Geese
Through the Breathin series, the artist invites viewers to step away from the noise of everyday life (including overstimulating media) and spend quiet, reflective moments in their own space. The enigmatic plants, depicted against a dark background, resemble light blossoming in darkness, illuminating the depths of our inner worlds.
Standing before the works, the artist encourages viewers to close their eyes, take deep breaths, and focus on their own rhythm of breathing. The artist hopes these pieces offer a precious opportunity for each viewer to open their "window of the mind" and discover inner peace.
